The Terra Firma Consultancy is a leading firm of Chartered Landscape Architects based in the rural market town of Petersfield within the newly created South Downs National Park. The Practice is situated just one hour from Central London, and 15 minutes from the historic channel port of Portsmouth (see map on contact us page).
Launched by ex-Portsmouth City Chief Landscape Architect John Wigham in May 1985 and since 2000, under the leadership of former partner Lionel Fanshawe, the Practice has gone on to secure the highest reputation for its standard of work across the entire spectrum of Landscape Consultancy Services, from Environmental Impact Assessment, Planning and Design, through to supervision of Project Implementation and subsequent Landscape Management.
The scope of the Practice's work engages in every sector; strategic masterplans, private estates and gardens, upmarket flats and houses, prestigious corporate headquarters, health and community care complexes; sports and leisure centres, school, college and university buildings, heritage schemes, retail schemes, industrial and office complexes, public parks and open space, theme parks, urban streetscape, waterside, inner-city action programmes, community initiatives etc.
The Practice won the 2004 Local Government News Street Design Awards for best 'Home Zone' and runner up for best 'Waterside' schemes for projects completed in Portsmouth and Paddington. Terra Firma's work for the University of Portsmouth at Lion Square won commendations from both the Portsmouth Society and Civic Trust Awards this year and the Leonard Cheshire memorial garden at Le Court was a finalist in Horticulture Week's most recent annual Parks and Gardens award.
Terra Firma is a Landscape Institute Registered Practice, a Law Society Registered Expert Witness, a Member of the Urban Design Group and an Associate of the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment. The practice is a Registered Limited Company, has obtained Investors in People Status and is Quality Assured to ISO 9001 (2000). We are currently working towards ISO 14001 Environmental Accreditation.
Terra Firma works in all sectors from central government departments [including the MOD and FCO], local government and private clients. The firm is currently term consultant to several organisations including Leonard Cheshire Disability and many leading developers such as Waterbridge, Newbridge, Tilfen and Segro.
The firm has associated offices in Latvia and Lebanon and in January 2006 set up Alshamsi Terra Firma LLC in Dubai, now one of the Gulf's leading landscape consultancies.
