{"id":741,"date":"2012-05-28T10:43:27","date_gmt":"2012-05-28T09:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/?p=741"},"modified":"2022-10-20T12:34:48","modified_gmt":"2022-10-20T11:34:48","slug":"the-merry-month-of-may-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/the-merry-month-of-may-3\/","title":{"rendered":"The Merry Month of May"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='booster-block booster-read-block'>\n                <div class=\"twp-read-time\">\n                \t<i class=\"booster-icon twp-clock\"><\/i> <span>Read Time:<\/span>1 Minute, 20 Second                <\/div>\n\n            <\/div><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">by Alison Galbraith<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">May is always my favourite month of the year.\u00a0 There is my birthday, the FA cup final, the cricket season gets going in earnest, the days are getting longer and the weather is often quite beautiful.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">But the best thing about May is watching our natural world suddenly come alive.\u00a0 The trees are now in full leaf, the grass is growing madly, spring flowers are sprinkled everywhere.\u00a0 There is such hope and promise in the vibrancy, the freshness, the greenness. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: small;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/2012-05-23-17.09.58.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-744\" title=\"2012-05-23 17.09.58\" src=\"http:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/2012-05-23-17.09.58-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/2012-05-23-17.09.58.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/2012-05-23-17.09.58-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Later when the sun gets hotter, leaves become dry, lose their sheen.\u00a0 But in May there is a softness, an energy, a vigour. The hawthorn hedges are clothed in stunning white blossom, with cow parsley bubbling along the verges below; beech leaves are bright green and velvety; gentle sunlight filters through the woodland canopy to delicately light the bluebells and wood garlic beneath.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/2012-05-23-17.13.261.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-745\" title=\"2012-05-23 17.13.26\" src=\"http:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/2012-05-23-17.13.261-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">I took longer than usual to cycle home yesterday as I had to stop every few minutes to snap photos.\u00a0 They may not be the best quality but I hope they capture the magic of May.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">As a designer it is not difficult to achieve a display in May \u2013 there are so many plants looking great!\u00a0 I like this planting combination inherited in my garden.\u00a0 It combines the lightness of the London Pride and the deep purple of the aquilegia with the promise of fox gloves and the hosta flowers to follow, while the latter\u2019s foliage creates a bold and fresh foil for the arrangement.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.terrafirmaconsultancy.com\/landscape-architect-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/2012-05-25-08.21.42.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-746\"
