Humans are unique in their own little ways and appreciating the nuances of that is what helps us tackle and thrive in society. Recently, our team had a productive day of team building with KSL Training, where we learned about our own and our colleagues’ personality traits and how we could help ourselves feel comfortable and do our best at work. We identified our own personalities through a Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test that we had filled in earlier.

Having done this test, in different methods, quite a few times at different points of my life, I was quite surprised with how my results changed through the years, giving me much to reflect on how much I have changed through the course of the years.

The first half of the day was spent learning about the different types and what they meant. It was quite an insightful learning. To begin with, there are 4 categories of traits each person has –

  • Introverts and Extroverts
  • Sensing and INtuitive
  • Feeling and Thinking
  • Judging and Perceiving

The sixteen different Personalities that arise from the combinations of the traits.

Every one of us tend to lean towards one from each category (although in our daily lives, we oscillate into other traits to deal with issues) and the combination of these four traits is what makes up our core personality. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean we are pigeon-holed into said “box”, rather it gives us a framework to better our relationships, how we interact and in case of workplace and our relations with our clients, how better to communicate and pitch our ideas.

Our trainer was quite enthusiastic in giving us in-depth understanding of the dynamics of people with different traits with various activities and interactive discussions.

After a lovely lunch, we continued to the second half of the day, getting more personal with our own traits, aimed at understanding, and appreciating the way people with different personality traits notice, react, and deal with various scenarios. We learnt a lot through fun little activities aimed at understanding and appreciating the way how contrastingly people with different personality traits notice, react and deal in various scenarios – from handling a burglary at a friend’s house to spontaneous holiday packing.

The day ended with an interesting game of Cluedo where we needed to find the murderer based on our newfound knowledge of different personality traits. Needless to say, most of us got it right, thanks to an amazing trainer (can we get our own Sherlock’s deerstalker and pipe now, please?).
