Working with concept designer Fiona Atkinson, terra firma worked on detailed design for construction of the public realm surrounding the award winning BA i360 on Brighton’s seafront, creating an event space and a plaza with inclusion of columns form the original west Pier.

The remains of the West Pier form the focus for the BA i360 and the eastern piazza. As well as the construction of the i360, the immediate area benefitted from the restoration of arches under the upper promenade for use as retail units and the remodelling of the public realm on the lower promenade, used as a compound during construction. The eastern piazza design incorporates cast iron columns from the West Pier set in a Golden Spiral with the illumination of these and natural stone benches bringing a striking focus to the piazza.

The local community has embraced the Golden Spiral. What was an empty space is now a vibrant and busy space, both during the day and at night. The Golden Spiral, with West Pier beyond forms a fantastic back drop to the adjacent small businesses, and in particular the two restaurants with outdoor seating areas. The area is continually photographed and is popular with wedding parties and family groups looking for attractive backgrounds for their special occasion.
